FORESTS
Forests in Gironde: powerful and diverse natural settings
Gironde is one of the most wooded departments in France, with hundreds of thousands of hectares of forests, mostly maritime pines. Between cathedral-like pines, mysterious undergrowth, sandy clearings and hidden lakes, these spaces offer powerful, wild and photogenic natural settings.
These forests are easily accessible, often crossed by tracks or bordered by passable roads, and some are even located in the immediate vicinity of Bordeaux, offering valuable logistical solutions for production.
In Gironde, we find both wild forests and developed areas, rectilinear landscapes and more fiery areas, where nature reclaims its rights.

Landes de Gascogne Regional Nature Park
A green ocean as far as the eye can see. Here, the maritime pine forest stretches endlessly, punctuated by rivers, lagoons, and traditional houses. Around a bend in the path, you'll discover the monumental works of the Contemporary Art Forest, scattered in the heart of the woods: sculptures, installations, artistic interventions, which transform certain sites into veritable open-air galleries.
Bordeaux Metropolis
Just a few minutes from the center of Bordeaux, there are superb wooded areas that offer accessible and varied natural settings. Pessac, the Bourgailh forest offers forest trails, clearings and belvederes in the heart of an urban park. Towards Martillac, we discover elegant pine forests which border the wine-growing properties of Graves. And at Latresne, the rolling woodlands offer panoramas over the Garonne Valley. Finally, at Floirac, the Burthe estate, with its bridleways, groves and tall trees, provides a peaceful forest setting, ideal for filming on the outskirts of the city. These are all perfect locations for incorporating scenes in the great outdoors while remaining as close as possible to urban and logistical infrastructure.
Forest filming authorization procedure
Filming in the forest: permits and precautions
Filming in a forest environment requires specific preparation. The first step is to identify the owner of the premises using the ONF website or Géoportail by selecting the ONF Public Forests map. Depending on the site chosen (state forest, municipal forest, private forest, natural park), authorizations must be obtained from the managers (NFB, municipalities, private owners, joint unions). NFB application form.
It is also essential to take into account the seasonal conditions : in summer, especially in the Landes of Gascony ou the Medoc, the risk of fire can lead to restrictions or even bans on access. The Filming Reception Office supports productions to anticipate these constraints, prepare requests and ensure the safety of the teams and the site.
