FORESTS

Forests in Gironde: powerful and diverse natural settings

Gironde is one of the most wooded departments in France, with hundreds of thousands of hectares of forests , mostly maritime pines. Between pines as straight as cathedrals, mysterious undergrowth, sandy clearings and hidden lakes, these spaces offer powerful, wild and photogenic natural scenery.

These forests are easily accessible, often crossed by tracks or bordered by passable roads, and some are even located in the immediate vicinity of Bordeaux, offering valuable logistical solutions for production.

In Gironde, we find both wild forests and developed areas, rectilinear landscapes and more fiery areas, where nature reclaims its rights.

OUR FAVORITES

Médoc Regional Natural Park

Confidential and varied, the Médoc's forest side blends moors, marshes, wetlands, and pine trees on sand. Near the estuary, some sites offer rare viewpoints where the forest meets the water, creating subtle contrasts and stunning atmospheres.

Landes de Gascogne Regional Nature Park

A green ocean stretching as far as the eye can see. Here, the maritime pine forest extends endlessly, punctuated by rivers, lagoons, and traditional houses. Around a bend in the path, one discovers the monumental works of the Contemporary Art Forest , scattered throughout the heart of the woods: sculptures, installations, artistic interventions, which transform certain sites into veritable open-air galleries.

Forests of Entre-deux-Mers

In the Garonne Valley, certain humid and alluvial forests offer particularly cinematic atmospheres. The vegetation is dense, low, often bathed in humidity, and crossed by small streams. In the early hours of the day, the morning mists create mysterious landscapes.

Bordeaux Metropolis

Just minutes from the center of Bordeaux, you'll find superb wooded areas offering accessible and varied natural settings. In Pessac , the Bourgailh forest boasts forest trails, clearings, and viewpoints in the heart of an urban park. Near Martillac , elegant pine forests border the Graves wine estates. And in Latresne , the rolling woodlands offer panoramic views of the Garonne Valley. Finally, in Floirac , the Domaine de la Burthe, with its bridle paths, groves, and mature trees, provides a peaceful forest setting, ideal for filming on the outskirts of the city. These are all perfect locations for incorporating scenes in nature while remaining close to urban and logistical infrastructure.

Forest filming authorization procedure

Filming in the forest: permits and precautions

Filming in a forest environment requires specific preparation. The first step is to identify the landowner using the ONF website or Géoportail by selecting the ONF Public Forests map. Depending on the chosen location (state forest, municipal forest, private forest, nature park), permits must be obtained from the relevant authorities ( ONF , municipalities, private landowners, joint associations). ONF application form.

It is also essential to consider seasonal conditions : during the summer months, particularly in the Landes de Gascogne or the Médoc region , the risk of fire can lead to restrictions or even complete access bans. The Film Commission assists productions in anticipating these constraints, preparing applications, and ensuring the safety of the crew and the location.
