Synopsis: In June 1940, as German troops invaded French territory, "the greatest rescue operation ever carried out by a single person" took place: more than thirty thousand people, including ten thousand Jews, were able to escape Nazi barbarity. A single man, defying his superiors and the orders of dictator Salazar, chose, according to his conscience, to allow tens of thousands of refugees to reach his country, Portugal, by organizing a continuous distribution of visas over several days. This man was Aristides de Sousa Mendes, the Portuguese consul in Bordeaux.
