Synopsis: A woman with a rebellious spirit, Thérèse Desqueyroux leads an altogether peaceful existence in the immense landaise property of her husband, Bernard, whom she married for convenience. The latter, a local man passionate about hunting, is very attached to family traditions. At first, Thérèse adapts to this comfortable life, but very quickly feels suffocated by its monotony, to which the birth of her daughter does not change anything.
