ALONG THE WATER
Canal, rivers, estuary: scenery along the water
The Gironde is shaped by water. Between the Gironde estuary, the Dordogne, the Garonne Canal, and its smaller tributaries, the department offers a mosaic of river landscapes, each with its own unique atmosphere.
Limestone cliffs overlooking the estuary, villages clinging to the banks, small fishing ports, mills, marshes, locks, pontoons, urban quays, canals lined with plane trees: the scenery along the water is numerous and varied, perfect for recreating rural, historical, intimate or spectacular atmospheres.
OUR FAVORITES
Garonne and Entre-deux-Mers Canal
Along the Garonne Canal, we cross the Entre-deux-Mers region and its villages: Fontet, Castets-en-Dorthe, and La Réole. With its banks planted with plane trees, its locks, and its bridges, the place exudes a warm and peaceful air of the South. A perfect setting for contemplative stories, bike rides, or sequences along the water.
Estuary of the Gironde
On the Médoc side, we find authentic ports like Saint-Vivien-de-Médoc, the squares emblematic of Pauillac planted at the water's edge, the marshes and the wild banks. Opposite, the village of Bourg reveals its cave houses, its picturesque alleys and its citadel which hides underground riders, a guardroom and even huge ones oil tanks dating from 1940, more than 70 meters long. Further north, the citadel of Blaye shape with the Fort Medoc the famous Vauban lock, a defensive complex listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, overlooking the estuary and offering a majestic historical setting.
The Leyre
A small, winding river nicknamed the "Little Amazon," the Leyre flows through the Landes de Gascogne before reaching the Arcachon Bay. Bordered by gallery forests, it offers a wild and unspoiled setting, where the water gently meanders. It's also a place for canoeing and fishing, and a link between the inland and the marine world of the Bay.
Dordogne
Since 2012, the Dordogne has been classified World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, a recognition that highlights the ecological and cultural richness of the river. You can visit old mills, sail from the port of Libourne, observe the famous tidal bore (wave going up the river 100 km from the ocean) or explore its tributaries like the Isle and the Dronne, between stone bridges and lush greenery.
Forest filming authorization procedure
Filming in the forest: permits and precautions
Filming in a forest environment requires a specific preparation. Depending on the site chosen (state forest, municipal forest, private forest, natural park), authorizations are to be obtained from managers (ONF, municipalities, private owners, joint unions).
It is also essential to take into account the seasonal conditions : in summer, especially in the Landes of Gascony ou the Medoc, the risk of fire can lead to restrictions or even bans on access. The Filming Reception Office supports productions to anticipate these constraints, prepare requests and ensure the safety of the teams and the site.
